[Drama Recap and Analysis] Webtoon Hero - Toondra Show Episode 3

Webtoon Hero - Toondra Show

[SPOILERS BELOW!] This is a recap and analysis of episode 3

Episode 3 continues with an hour time-skip from where ep 2 left off. Ah Young has now gone to her bed but is unable to sleep as she keeps thinking of the scenario between her and Do Jin from the previous night and how he called her 'pretty even without makeup'. How cute Girl's in love ~

In the meantime, the 4 handsome guys are taking care of Bomi while discussing last night's incident. To perhaps all of our surprises, Do Jin doesn't look too bothered by the subject. He's neither blushing nor ignoring them (I find this a bit weird, since he was all jealous and surprised just a few hours ago..but okay) We find out that Young Jae is apparently suffering from sleep walking. Which explains the scene with Ah Young. But even if he was sleep walking, why did he hug her of all people?

After that Ah Young goes to her part time job and while there she sees the webtoon artist sitting by the window once again. But this time (this is a tiny bit confusing since it's not made clear, at least I'm not sure) she starts to either daydream how it would feel like to have a much older boyfriend who is sweet towards her only to later on turn intoa douchebag and dump her/or she recalls a memory of her past with her ex-boyfriend who was a douchebag. Then after she wakes up from her daydreaming she sents a quick text message to someone (whom I believe is her ex-boyfriend, but it's not made clear so...but let's go with that) asking 'how have you been these days?' Suddenly Young Jae appears, cute as always, and says how he's missed her. Ah Young gets slightly annoyed and tells him to lower his voice. Ah Young is probably still embarrassed about the incident from last night but Young Jae clearly shows signs that he has no regrets and starts teasing her about it. He also shows a bit of a jealous side as he asks her if she flirted with someone. When Ah Young denies it, he insists and tells her that he's "heard rumours". Feeling the mood suddenly become tense, Young Jae smiles it off by adding how he was just joking Not.

They end up meeting the other 3 + Bomi on their way back home. Ah Young is very awkward around them, mostly around Do Jin and avoids their looks as she just tells them that she wants to go home and that she'll see them later. As she leaves, Do Jin asks Young Jae why Ah Young is acting so weirdly and if he apologized to her her. Young Jae says that he did but that she stil felt gloomy over something.

They head off to the playground where they start to speculate why Ah Young is feeling down. One of them comes up with the idea that she maybe got "dumped" <- yes I have no idea why this was even brought up as a topic, since she never said she was dating anymore. It's very weird but that's what the translation on two different websites said so i'll go with that ._. Suddenly they hear a man shouting out his undying love for someone in the far distance. They turned round and (for some odd reason) assure that it might be Ah Young's ex-boyfriend who is now trying to get her back.
At the same time, Ah Young hears this man's shouting and starts to freak out over whether or not she should go outside and meet this person. So it is her ex-boyfriend? ._. bear with me guys, it's very confusing...) Meanwhile the four guys run up to the older man and are just about to ask him who he is when an ajumma (korean: middle aged woman) suddenly shows up and says embarrassingly how he should stop. Turns out the man is drunk and is actually shouting his undying love for the ajumma, who is his ex-girlfriend who he now regrets cheating on. Whut?

In just a couple of seconds, the play ground turns into a battlefield as another man shows up who claims that the ajumma is actually his girlfriend and they two men start to fight. All this time the 4 guys just stand on the side and watch this drama unfold. Um....okay.

After a moment the ajumma steps in, beats up both of the men and shoves them back home. LOLz okay that was funny xD. Ah Young shows up right after the fight ends, all dressed up and tells the four guys that she has some important private business that she must do. Do Jin and Young Jae question her a bit about it but as she doesn't give them any answers they decide to just leave her be and head back home. After they leave we find out some backstory about Ah Young. She tells Shin and Kang Woo that her mom left her when she was very young, probably because she never recieved any love from her husband. Therefore, Ah Young had a rough childhood and felt very lonely. Ah Young therefore says that she doesn't know if she can trust someone but still thinks that love is something beautiful. She wants to love someone too but she is afraid of getting hurt. She then tells Shin and Kangwoo that she feels stupid for not being brave enough to approach the guy she likes and be honest with her feelings. She turns around, to finally look at the two guys when she realises that they've fallen asleep. LOLz.

She looks at Kang Woo for a good while before her gaze falls down on his hands and she notes how big they are and how they remind her of her dads. She then leans in on him as to give him a kiss when he suddenly wakes up and looks surprised at her and that marks the end of ep 3.

My thoughts: Boy oh boy. I don't even know where to start with this one ._. but if I had to sum up this episode into three word it'd definitely be "A complete mess". Seriously, I had to look at the show's title to make sure I was watching the right show because besides the fact that they somehow loosely tried to connect Young Jae's sleep walking to the incident that happened at the end of ep 2, it felt like an entirely separate story. Do Jin x Ah Young romance? is now non-existent. Ah Young suddenly has a ex-boyfriend that traumatized her love-experience. Random drunk dudes fight over a ajumma <- I guess this was supposed to be funny and make you for a second think the guy is truly Ah Young's ex-boyfriend, but it just felt so out of place and then the ending. Oh god. The ending. Wtf? So now she suddenly has a crush on Shin? Since when? How? I don't know if it's the sub (because I checked two different websites like i said, and they both said the same or similar things) but even with the subs. the scenes don't make any sense at all. So in the end it's a romance drama between all four of the guys and Ah Young? I don't mind it, it'd actually be kind of unique than just a simple triangle drama, but the way it was done was so forced and weird and just...aaaah head ache X_X. If they wanted her to have a romance line with Shin too, they should've given us some hints. Besides the fact that Shin lied to the delivery man that he was Ah Young's husband, we never got anything and now suddenly Ah Young wants to kiss him and confess her love for him? Lady. You were all fangirly over Do Jin just a few hours ago. I don't know if this drama is just jumping all over the olace with ther romance or if Ah Young is just one very indecessive and confusing person ._. or if I missed anything....I rewatched this episode 2 times just to make sure i didn't miss out on some important hints. But no, there was nothing. I did appreciate the backstory we got on Ah Young, about her parents and her childhood. It gave her character some depth but compared to how messy this episode was, not even that one enjoyable minute of backstory could save it from becoming a complete disaster. I'm just so confused guys. Where is this drama trying to go with the plot? It's so inconsistent, no it's not even inconsistency it's just....random scenes that are not even connected to one another mixed together to make up an episode. Sigh x_x. Let's wait for episode 4 and see if it'll be more clear. As for now I'll just lift my hands off this case. Let me know what you guys think because this is seriously giving me a headache. Do you agree? Do you disagree? Leave a comment below and do let me know :3
